Centennial Discovery

Hardware and Software discovery

Thanks to its ability to provide a full dynamic audit of all network devices, wherever they are located, Discovery makes sure that you have the latest information on the configuration, usage and physical location of all your hardware and software.

Discovery is fundamentally different to other inventory solutions.  It won’t just give you an audit of the PCs you point it at, it will tell you about every piece of hardware it detects on the network.

Hardware

In addition to Windows PCs, Centennial Discovery’s patent-pending LANProbe technology tracks every IP device on the network including:

  • Non-Windows PCs (Mac OSX, Citrix, Linux)
  • Servers (Windows, Unix, Linux, AIX, Solaris)
  • Network printers
  • Routers and managed switches
  • Firewall's and other SNMP-enabled network devices

And it’s not just local PCs and devices that are audited; Discovery will automatically create a complete network inventory of the entire organisation, including LAN, WAN and even remote dial-up connections.

By continually monitoring the network for configuration changes, Centennial Discovery can alert administrators to events such as memory being removed from a PC, or a device being moved from one location to another. Discovery will also automatically recognise a new device being added to the network and can even identify if a particular PC hasn't returned an audit for a period of time.

Software Audit and Usage Tracking

When you need to audit software use across your entire organisation, there’s no faster solution than Discovery 2006. Discovery will tell you what you’ve got, where it is and how often it is being used - all without you having to leave your desk.

Software audit information can then be easily reconciled with licenses on file to establish whether the organisation is within current compliance obligations, or is even over-licensed.

By auditing software usage, Discovery can help managers decide when to remove redundant software, when to re-deploy applications and even whether or not to renew maintenance contracts.

Discovery can also alert administrators to the presence of unauthorised software on individual machines, helping identify security vulnerabilities and reducing the legal exposure of the organisation.

Discovery helps administrators identify where specific instances of an application require a security upgrade to combat a specific vulnerability - cutting down the time taken to react to threats.
